ASLYoga.com has a simple goal of increasing accessability for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community to experience Yoga, an ancient healing art which maintains health, reduces stress and helps calm the mind.
ASLYoga.com is proud to announce our latest Free ASL Yoga program that allows members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community to take Yoga classes free of charge. Many classes are offered throughout the week for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people to choose from. The classes (formerly at Healing in Yoga) were held at the Austin Kula Yoga Center in Austin, Texas. We pair up the yoga student with an ASL interpreter or a ASL student for the class. Interpreters/signers are volunteers with some of the interpreters being certified and some being students - many come from Austin Community College's American Sign Language and Interpreter Preparation Program in their final stages of obtaining certification. Together we are making this a great opportunity for everyone to explore the many joys and benefits of Yoga.

Yoga? Why? Who?
What is Yoga?
The word Yoga is an ancient sanskrit word that means "yoke" or "union" - that which connects. In the western world Yoga usually refers to the ancient healing art practice that maintains health of the Body, Mind and Spirit. It is not a religion and does not require any specific beliefs. It is simply a great way of finding a connection within yourself to live healthy in body, mind and spirit. From there it is your choice what you want to do!
Why in ASL?
Simply put ASL (American Sign Language) is the native language of many Deaf and Hard of Hearing people. ASL gives these people the opportunity to better understand this ancient healing art that started in India and persists across the world today as one of the best ways of maintaining health, reducing stress, and calming the mind.
